Neighbourhood Watch
May 28th, 2008 by Omally

Y’know, I get to see quite a bit of life from my study window. I usually have the window open while I work so I do get disturbed by the odd noise now and then and naturally jump up to have a good trunky. It’s so peaceful in our quiet little cul-de-sac that I’m afraid this is simply unavoidable behaviour.

So far today I’ve caught:

1. Some bored teenagers just hanging around with nothing better to do. I didn’t say anything, but they spotted me watching and decided to push off.

2. My next-door neighbour shoving her excess recycling into my green bin (it’s bin day today) without asking. Again no comment from me and I was spotted but cheerily waved at this time. Happily we’re not charged by weight for refuse disposal so I don’t really care.

3. Some idiot in a white van reversed into a couple of emptied bins (the bin-men always leave them right on the edge of the kerb). He didn’t bother to stop and see what that god-awful racket was. Could have been a child for all he knew. Didn’t get a chance to comment ‘cos he sped off sharpish. Should’ve got his company name and rego number. Could’ve made for an entertaining phone-call.

Sooner I get these net curtains stiched and rehung, the better.

Deliberate Juxtaposition?
May 23rd, 2008 by Omally

For all it’s faults, television can provide perhaps unintentional amusement. At least I think it was unintentional for ITV to show a government advert warning of the dangers of over-drinking by young females, only to follow that up immediately with an advert from Tesco banging on about how cheaply they can sell you vast quantities of alcohol. Or maybe someone controlling the advert schedule has a sense of humour.

Ah, splendid.

In other news, between my new doctor and Stu I’m now feeling very guilty for not taking enough exercise. There’s a swimming pool within walking distance. I’ve even checked out the pool opening times and costs, both of which are very reasonable. I have no excuse, except there’s still a fair amount of turf-moving to be done in the garden. And weeding. And digging over the newest part of the veg-patch-to-be (including mixing in 2 bags of sharp sand because the soil is so full of clay one could reasonably expect to only grow pottery).

Hmm. I have a couple of application forms to post out today, plus a small package for overseas, so I might go for a swim before lunch. See how many depths I can do before I get too knackered. :)
