Surprise
Jan 30th, 2009 by Omally

There’s a habit of mine, which is to occasionally yet very firmly believe there’s no decent music released these days. Sure, the odd half-decent song pops out of m’radio on the way to work but it’s Not Like How It Used To Be, oh dear me no. I remember when it was all fields etc. I’m only thirty, er *does workings out on hands* three so p’raps I shouldn’t think that way as people do point out to me that thirty three is not old at all.

Anyway, there are times when a track pops up to remind me that there ARE fresh musicians out there doing their own thang and they quite frankly radiate talent like a whopping gert lighthouse. Cool viral videos help, of course.

This Oren Lavie chap may be a fan of Nick Drake and Jack Johnson, but beautiful work nonetheless. Made my day, did that.

And then of course you get stuff like this, which is astounding in a very different way:

Stick with it til the end.

Oh, alright, one more:

*snigger*

Tuesday Challenge - Front Page!

If there was a magazine dedicated to model seige-engine enthusiasts who liked using plastic eyeballs for ammunition and it had this on the cover and you _were_ one such enthusiast, would you buy it?

And here’s a double-page spread thingy for an article about, er, lucky corks. Dunno ’bout you but I’ve seen LOADS of articles about lucky corks.*

Yup, used m’new Canon G7 for these. Post-processing = dicking about with contrast and brightness (former up in both cases, latter up in the first and down in the second).

Hmmm. Still not entirely happy with these shots. The 2p coins in the first shot ought to be brighter somehow. Maybe I should just polish the coins or only choose really shiny new ones for the shot.

I’ll have a play in daylight tomorrow, or mebbe at the weekend.

*Er. Well, maybe not. Ahem.

Dilemma
Jan 26th, 2009 by Omally

Hmmm. It seems I’ve had a stroke of luck today. Shopping for a pressie for someone after work, I popped into Festival Place in Amazingstoke* and strolled into a home furnishing shop. Pressie duly acquired, I spied some nice BIG kilner jars at a fiver each so I grabbed three, justifying the already discounted price as ‘well, they’ll get used for years so ner’. I took the lot to the counter, paid up and only realised I’d only been charged for just one jar and the pressie when I got back to the car.
The dilemma is; should I go back tomorrow and hand over a tenner or should I simply enjoy the unsolicited bonus? There are numerous arguments in favour of each path. Obviously Karma on the one hand, on the other hand there’s the ‘well, that shop has always charged stupidly high prices for their tat these last few years so stuff ‘em’ kind of argument.
I’m sure the solution will present itself to me after a couple more delicious bottles of Tanglefoot.

Lots more happened on the wedding organising front today. If you could just roll a pair of imaginary drums for a moment please, an imaginary trianglist will be a long in a mo to give you a brief ‘ting’:

Wedding stats:
Overall WIP = 34.09%

Just you wait til we’ve visited the florist with my Mum in a coupla weeks. That’ll be another load of things ticked off or I don’t know my Mum :)

*Nearly every shop seems to be threatening to close down and are almost giving customers their stock. Good time to do your Xmas shopping, I’d say. Or buy a new suit from Suits You, they’re banging ‘em out for stupid prices.
